A minor died in hospital following a shooting in Tbilisi late on July 22 that injured three other people, Georgia's Interior Ministry said. The incident took place on a street in the capital's Vera district, and the alleged shooter was arrested shortly afterwards.
Police said four people, including two minors, were wounded and taken to hospital. One of the minors died shortly after admission as a result of their injuries. Media reports, not confirmed by the authorities, identified the deceased as 17 years old.
Arrest after the shooting
The Interior Ministry said the suspect fled after the shooting but was detained soon after. It said he resisted officers with a weapon during the arrest and sustained a hand injury; the ministry did not give further details about that injury.
An investigation has been opened on attempted aggravated murder charges. The alleged shooter could face up to 20 years in prison or life imprisonment, according to the ministry.
Reports from the Vera district
Media reports placed the shooting at the intersection of Akaki Shanidze and Akaki Khorava streets in Vera. An eyewitness quoted by local media said a man opened fire on three boys, said to be aged 17 or 18, who were sitting in a car, and then shot a woman who was nearby.
The Interior Ministry has not publicly confirmed the eyewitness account or released further information on the condition of the three surviving victims. The investigation is continuing.
