Georgia's real gross domestic product grew by 6.4% year-on-year in May 2026, according to rapid estimates released by the National Statistics Office (Geostat) on June 30. Average real GDP growth for January–May stood at 7.8%.

Sector breakdown

Geostat said the May increase was driven mainly by financial and insurance, information and communication, manufacturing, transportation, and storage. Construction recorded a decline in the same period.

International forecasts

The figures arrive as major lenders continue to project robust, though moderating, growth for Georgia in 2026.

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development raised its 2026 forecast to 6% and expects 5% in 2027. It noted that flagship investment projects in real estate, transport, and renewables could support stronger expansion, while warning that Middle East conflict may weigh on tourism revenues and raise imported energy costs.

The International Monetary Fund described Georgia's economy as resilient, projecting growth of 6.5% in 2026 with inflation staying above the National Bank of Georgia's target until mid-2027.

The United Nations and World Bank also expect continued growth, though at a slightly slower pace. The UN World Economic Situation and Prospects 2026 report projects 5.4% growth, while the World Bank estimates 5.5% for 2026 and forecasts average growth of 3.5% across the South Caucasus in 2025–2026 as spillovers from trade intermediation and capital inflows diminish.
