Thai travel vlogger Hlun Solo, who had been missing for more than two weeks after travelling to Georgia on a solo trip, was found dead in a hotel room in Tbilisi, police told Civil.ge on July 29. He was 27.

Investigation opened

An investigation has been launched under Article 115 of Georgia’s Criminal Code, which covers “incitement to suicide” and is routinely opened when a person is found dead under unclear circumstances.

RFE/RL’s Georgian Service said it is aware the traveller had been found dead “nearly two weeks” before the July 29 confirmation from police.

Family last contact

Hlun Solo’s brother, who uses the Facebook name Klose Mos, said on July 28 that the family had last contacted him on July 13 and that since then they had been unable to reach him by phone or through any online channels.

Thailand’s Foreign Ministry reportedly worked with Georgian law enforcement authorities and the local Thai community to locate him.

Channel and identity

Hlun Solo, whose official name was Bowornthat Pengsuk, ran a travel-focused YouTube channel with nearly one million subscribers. Relatives had earlier appealed publicly for information after losing contact during his filming trip to Georgia.
