Georgian Railways has announced a schedule adjustment that will reduce travel time on the popular rail route connecting Tbilisi and Batumi from five hours to 4 hours beginning August 3, 2026.
Faster Rail Connection
The reduction in travel time aims to streamline passenger transport between the capital and the Black Sea coastal hub during the peak summer travel season. High-speed Stadler double-decker trains operating along the main line will benefit from upgraded track management and line optimizations.
Crossing Safety Upgrades
To support the accelerated schedule and maintain operational safety, Georgian Railways has launched a rapid procurement procedure valued at 107,380 GEL. The project finances the installation of modern video surveillance systems across 25 level crossings in the Guria region.
The new surveillance systems are designed to enhance monitoring capabilities at rail-road intersections and enable faster response times to potential safety incidents. Equipment installation is scheduled to take place between July 27 and August 3, immediately ahead of the faster train timetable rollout.
