Primark could become one of the next major international retail brands to enter Georgia, according to comments by Mikheil Khidureli, who said discussions are under way with Alshaya Group about expanding the group’s brand presence in the country.

Alshaya, which operates Starbucks in Georgia, manages a portfolio of more than 70 international brands. Khidureli said the talks are therefore not limited to the coffee chain and named Primark as one of the large retailers being discussed.

Talks remain at an early stage

No timetable, proposed locations or formal agreement has been announced. Khidureli did not specify which brands could arrive first, the stage of the negotiations, or when consumers might see new stores open.

The comments signal continued interest in Georgia’s consumer market from international retail operators, while leaving the outcome dependent on commercial agreements and local rollout plans.

A major Irish clothing retailer

Primark is an Irish-founded clothing and homewares retailer with stores across Europe, the United States and the Middle East. The chain operates in 19 countries and has more than 480 stores, employing tens of thousands of people worldwide.

If the talks progress, the retailer would add to the list of international consumer brands seeking a presence in Georgia. For now, Primark’s possible entry remains a prospect under discussion rather than a confirmed launch.
