Former Georgian Dream lawmaker Kakha Kakhishvili has publicly questioned the competence and management of Georgia's power grid after a third nationwide electricity outage halted metro services, disrupted rail transit, and paralyzed traffic across the country.
Doubts surrounding grid management
Writing on social media, Kakhishvili stated that explanations issued by Georgian State Electrosystem raised more concerns than answers. He argued that repeating large-scale failures point either to severe incompetence among energy officials or intentional negligence affecting national economic stability.
The outage caused widespread public disruption, including halted public transportation and dark traffic signals, which reportedly led to a traffic accident in which a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle.
Calls for investigation and backup protocols
Kakhishvili questioned why reserve systems failed to engage if the disruption stemmed from technical testing. He asked why the public received no advance notice if such risks were foreseeable, calling for full, transparent conclusions from an official investigation into grid reliability.
