Georgia’s Finance Ministry Investigation Service says it has detained two people on suspicion of jointly using another company’s trademark unlawfully, following operational and investigative measures.
Alleged counterfeit operation
According to investigators, the suspects allegedly produced falsified alcohol under the Jack Daniel’s brand for unlawful profit on a particularly large scale. The products were reportedly kept in a warehouse belonging to one member of the group.
Police searched the premises and seized 300 counterfeit bottles with a total stated value of 22,400 lari, or about $8,200. The ministry did not identify the detainees or state where the alleged production and storage operation was located.
Potential prison sentence
The case is being investigated under subparagraph “g” of Part 3 of Article 196 of Georgia’s Criminal Code, which covers the unlawful use of another party’s trademark by a group.
If convicted, the two detainees face three to five years in prison. The investigation remains under way.
