Georgia recorded 1.3 million international visitors in the second quarter of 2026, representing a 5.2% decrease compared to the same period in 2025, according to data released by the National Statistics Office of Georgia (Geostat). Total visits by international visitors stood at 1.5 million, down 4.5% year-on-year, while broader non-resident traveler entries reached 1.7 million.
Visitor origins and purpose
Visitors from Russia formed the largest share of foreign arrivals at 25.1% of all visitors (328,900 individuals), followed by Turkey at 16.9% and Armenia at 10.8%. By total visits, Russian citizens also ranked highest with 380,100, ahead of Turkish citizens (287,000) and Armenian citizens (199,600).
Geostat noted that 81.5% of international visitors stayed at least one night in the country as tourists, while 14.8% were day excursionists and 3.8% fell into both categories. Holiday, leisure, and recreation was the primary purpose cited by 49.6% of visitors. Travelers aged 31 to 50 made up 45.6% of arrivals, and women accounted for 42.9% of the total.
Popular destinations and spending
Tbilisi and the coastal region of Adjara remained the most visited destinations in Georgia, recording 875,500 and 621,300 visits, respectively, during the reporting period.
Total spending by international visitors reached GEL 3 billion in the second quarter, marking a 13.3% decline year-on-year. Average expenditure per visit dropped 9.2% to GEL 1,922.1 (approximately USD 734).
