Georgia participated in Sea Breeze 2026, a major U.S.-led multinational maritime exercise that brought together NATO allies and partner nations to strengthen interoperability, enhance maritime security, and improve regional operational readiness.
The second iteration of this year’s exercise took place from 13 to 24 July in Portland, United Kingdom. Georgia was represented by 12 personnel drawn from the Georgian Coast Guard and the Georgian Defense Forces, serving alongside military forces from 14 other participating nations.
Mine countermeasure operations
The training focused primarily on mine countermeasure operations. Participating units engaged in mine hunting, explosive ordnance disposal, dive and salvage missions, and the deployment of unmanned underwater systems to tackle evolving naval threats.
Multinational forces practiced joint planning, command and control protocols, and tactical operational scenarios designed to align procedures across participating navies and coast guards.
Broad international participation
In addition to Georgia and the United States, participants included forces from Bulgaria, Denmark, Estonia, France, Greece, Japan, Latvia, Poland, Spain, Sweden, Türkiye, Ukraine, and the United Kingdom.
The UK iteration followed an earlier phase of the exercise hosted by Romania in the Black Sea region from 3 to 19 June. Joint exercises under the Sea Breeze framework have taken place regularly since 1997 to support maritime defense capabilities and promote regional stability.
