Pupils in Georgia will study several subjects under an updated curriculum from the 2026–27 academic year. Schools have already received a proposed weekly timetable, though officials have not yet formally approved it.
Earlier chemistry and split subjects
Under the planned changes, chemistry will begin in grade 7 rather than grade 8. From the same year, Georgian language and literature will be taught as separate subjects instead of a combined course.
History will also be divided. From grade 7, pupils will study the history of Georgia and world history as distinct classes.
More time for basics
At primary level, schools are set to allocate more weekly hours to Georgian language, literature, and mathematics.
Changes in grade 10
Another shift affects the final year of basic secondary school. Under the draft plan, world history will no longer appear on the grade 10 timetable; pupils in that year would study only the history of Georgia.
The Ministry of Education has circulated the proposed schedule to schools ahead of formal adoption. Families and teachers should expect further confirmation once the timetable is officially approved.
