Georgia’s National Environment Agency has warned of worsening weather across much of the country from 13 to 15 August, with heavy rain, thunderstorms and hail possible in several regions.
Western Georgia in the spotlight
On 13–14 August, heavy rain is forecast in places across Adjara, Guria, Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti and several other regions. Thunderstorms, hail and stronger winds are also possible as the unsettled spell continues into 15 August.
The Black Sea coast and inland western districts often see the sharpest bursts of summer convection when moisture builds over the mountains. Local intensity can vary widely over short distances, so conditions may shift quickly within a single afternoon.
Flood and landslide risk
Heavy precipitation may cause rapid rises on small rivers and streams. In hilly or mountain areas, saturated slopes raise the risk of landslides and mudflows. The agency assesses the danger level as medium.
Authorities typically advise avoiding flooded roads, staying clear of steep embankments after intense showers, and monitoring official updates before travel between regions. Outdoor plans along the Adjara coast and in the western interior may need to be adjusted as the warning period unfolds.
