Alpha Architecture says work is starting, on the city mayor’s initiative, to renew the waterfront entrance in the Old Boulevard area. The new plaza is meant as a main transition between the city fabric and the seaside promenade.
What the project includes
Plans call for at least 10 new palm trees lining the path toward the sea, new fountains with dolphin sculptures, and wooden rest areas with walkways and benches. The entrance itself would be widened, with a new oval staircase and a ramp for visitors with limited mobility.
A sculptural BATUMI gateway is positioned as one of the main landmarks of the space, alongside modern lighting for the fountains, paths and seating zones, plus a drinking fountain for pets.
Local stone and the stated aim
Pedestrian zones are to be paved in granite and porcelain stoneware, with stairs and ramps finished in travertine — materials to be delivered from different regions of Georgia. Natural stone is presented as a defining feature of the scheme.
In its statement the company said the square will bring architecture, local natural materials, water, landscape and public space together “in a single environment” at the edge of the boulevard.
