An inspector from the Batumi Municipal Inspection has been detained following an investigation by the Anti-Corruption Agency of the State Security Service of Georgia (SGB).

According to official statements from law enforcement, the employee was responsible for supervising construction activities within the municipality. Investigators established that the suspect accepted a large bribe from a citizen in exchange for failing to issue penalties for an illegally constructed commercial property in Batumi.
The intervention by anti-corruption officers prevented further regulatory circumvention regarding municipal building codes and permit enforcement.
Criminal Charges and Penalties
The case is being investigated under Article 338 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which specifically addresses bribery committed by a public official.
If convicted, the detainee faces a prison sentence ranging from 6 to 9 years. Legal proceedings and investigative procedures remain ongoing as authorities process evidence related to municipal oversight operations in Adjara.
