Georgia’s Ministry of Internal Affairs created a new unit for combating online hate speech on 1 June. In the weeks since, authorities have filed up to 60 cases in courts across the country.
Seven cases have already received final decisions, while more hearings are ongoing. The ministry has indicated that it will issue regular public updates on the unit’s progress and outcomes.
The filings mark the first visible enforcement activity by the dedicated team. Court records and ministry briefings are expected to shed further light on the nature of the cases and any penalties imposed as the docket advances.
